CLASSES: Run from June 29 – August 28, 2026

All LBC classes are US Sailing aligned curriculum with US Sailing Certified Instructors: 

New Sailor / Beginner (8-12 years) – 1/2 Day

This half-day program offers a relaxed introduction to the fundamentals of sailing. Sailors will focus on water safety, basic boat handling, wind awareness, and confidence on the water. Instruction is paced to support learning through repetition, games, and exploration, making it ideal for first-time sailors or those who prefer a lower-pressure environment.

New Sailor / Beginner (8-12 years) – Full Day

This full-day program offers a relaxed introduction to the fundamentals of sailing. Sailors will focus on water safety, basic boat handling, wind awareness, and confidence on the water. Instruction is paced to support learning through repetition, games, and exploration, making it ideal for first-time sailors or those who prefer a lower-pressure environment.

New Sailor / Beginner (12–17 years) – Full Day

For beginners who want age-appropriate instruction and pacing. Introduction to sailing fundamentals and seamanship. Rigging, derigging, and basic boat handling. Steering, sail trim, and understanding wind direction. Increased independence compared to younger beginner groups. Emphasis on safety, decision-making, and situational awareness. Opportunities to build confidence without feeling “behind”. Supportive progression toward intermediate-level skills.

Intermediate – Full Day

For sailors who are comfortable sailing independently in light-moderate conditions. Refinement of boat handling and sail trim. Sailing all points of sail with increased control. Tacking, gybing, docking, and capsize recovery. Introduction to boat tuning and basic racing concepts. Greater time on the water and reduced instructor intervention. Emphasis on problem-solving, confidence, and consistency. Preparation for advanced sailing or racing pathways.

Advanced – Full Day

For experienced sailors ready for higher-level challenges and leadership growth. Advanced boat handling in varied wind and sea conditions. Fine-tuning sail trim and boat speed. Tactical decision-making and situational awareness. Leadership development and peer mentoring opportunities. Emphasis on safety awareness and self-reliance. Introduction to coaching concepts and seamanship responsibility. Preparation for competitive racing or advanced sailing roles.

Intro-to-Racing – Full Day

For sailors interested in learning the fundamentals of sailboat racing. Introduction to basic racing rules and terminology. Starting sequences and racecourse geometry. Upwind and downwind techniques. Boat positioning and mark roundings. Sportsmanship, teamwork, and fair sailing principles. Emphasis on fun, confidence, and learning—not just winning. Foundation for future regattas and competitive sailing programs.

Sailing Instructor Apprentice(CIT) course (ages 12-17)FULL DAY

The Sailing Instructor Apprentice Course is a sailing skills and leadership focussed program for sailors interested in advanced levels of sailing and/or becoming compensated Certified Sailing Instructors at LBC. LBC seeks to further its programming through development of its instructional staff from within the LBC program. The Instructor Apprentice course furthers LBC’s investment in our community while providing continuity of programming and creating advanced sailors.The Instructor Apprentice will receive the highest level of coaching while sharing in the responsibilities of teaching sailing, helping rig and derig boats and manage the day-to-day challenges of delivering a high-quality of sailing programming to LBC students. Upon successful completion at the Instructor Apprentice’s own pace, LBC will subsidize Instructor Level Certification through US Sailing, a prerequisite to becoming a paid LBC Sailing Instructor. IA’s are encourage to participate in a minimum of 3 – 40 hour sessions each calendar year. IA/CIT’s will receive discounted LBC registration fees. Scholarships are available.
